Concern about climate change and damage to the natural world was what inspired the Garth garden at its inception. Here is NASA scientist James Hansen, the Grandfather of climate change speaking on the subject of climate justice and the realities of what we are faced with. This is the science, not the politics and he argues strongly for a carbon tax to help drive down emissions. The implications of this are significant and requires us all to think again about our relationship with energy and fossil fuels.
Hansen talks about getting Co2 levels back to 350 to be able to achieve energy balance again, on a planetary scale. This he states is the only way to stop a warming planet. The implications are enormous, and any soil scientist will tell you the best place to store carbon is in the soils. Organic gardens and local farms are net sequestrators of carbon and will have a big role to play in our future responses to both food security and carbon reduction priorities.

I have added this movie to the film section and recommend it to anyone who has not seen it yet. Made a few years ago now, but still cutting edge it exposes the way agri-business has transformed the food industry and farming practices in just a few short decades.
Here is the antidote, a look at the alternatives and a permaculture, ecologically sensitive approach to food production
Running volunteer days each Thursday along with everything else keeps Jude busy most of the time. For projects like Garth Organic, with involvement from a wide but constantly changing pool of volunteers and community members jobs like maintaining the website can often be a job too many.
New content and up date info is what keeps a site interesting and engaged with an audience, otherwise they quickly fall into a torpor from which it can be hard to recover. With that in mind Garth Organic have teamed up with 39internet, a local service provider who host, manage and update sites for community and environmental groups.
39internet are based at Dragon Co-operative in Llanrhaeadr and have worked with a great many community groups over the years setting up affordable and easy manage websites and blogs.
Garth Organic is all about collaboration and building strong links across our communities and we appreciate some and support and help from another permaculture inspired community enterprise.
